It was with such a heavy heart I heard the news that Chi from the Deftones had passed away. Â The shock back in 2008 of Chi’s horrific car accident was replaced by a sense of hope that he could pull through over the last few years. The One Love For Chi website demonstrated how much love chi was surrounded by and there was a sense that he could make a recovery. Sadly it wasn’t to be and Chi passed away on April 13 2013. Â I have photographed the Deftones on and off since 1996 and Chi was always friendly and good fun to be around. Â The last time I photographed Chi was on the bands 2006 US tour promoting the ‘Saturday Night Wrist’ album. Â I remember enjoying the bands company and the Deftones as a unit had found a new positive vibe about them. Â The group shot below was taken in Cleveland by the river on some waste ground late in the afternoon. Â That nights show was electric and the band sounded the best I have ever heard them. Â After the show we drank in a bar until late and invented the Stingray cocktail in memory of Steve irwin that had just passed away. If I could remember what we got the barman to put in that drink I would raise a Stingray in your memory.
